Specac offer a range of dies manufactured from the highest quality hardened 440C stainless steel to prepare pressed pellets for laboratory analysis, commonly KBr for FTIR and samples for XRF analysis as well as other applications.
• Hardened steel components Manufactured from the highest quality hardened 440C Stainless Steel, they offer the best possible quality and durability available.
• Diameters from 5 mm to 40 mm Suitable for FTIR (typically 13 mm) and XRF (32 and 40 mm) as well as other applications.
• Mirror polished pressing surfaces To offer the highest possible quality of pressed sample.

The standard 5-part pellet dies consist of a base, a body, 2 pressing pellets between which the sample is pressed as well as a plunger. In addition, 2 O-rings are used to complete the die and enable superior performance. Dies are also supplied with an extractor cup or ring to enable easy removal of the sample. All dies 5 -20mm have an evacuation tube, the 32 and 40mm dies are available with or without an evacuation tube. Those which have an evacuation tube allow the fitting of a vacuum pump to be used to assist with the removal of moisture if desired during the pressing process. The 32 and 40mm dies available without an evacuation tube have an evacuation port to allow air to escape. As dies are subject to a load placed upon them, each has a maximum load rating which should not be exceeded – see below.
